What do I need to donate my car?
The title to the car must be in your name. We will also need some information about where the car is located and the condition of the car. This will assist us in scheduling appropriate towing arrangements.
Will you pick up my car?
A towing company will call you to schedule the pick-up of your vehicle. You will need to give the driver the keys to the vehicle as well as your signed title.
How is the value of my car determined?
The IRS allows you to take a charitable tax deduction on your federal income tax form equal to the amount the vehicle sells for at auction unless it sells for less than $500. If your vehicle sells for less than $500 you may deduct no more than $500. If your vehicle sells for more than $500, you will need to include the IRS form 1098C. Click Here to Get Started!
Independent auxiliary circles of volunteers have held successful Trike-A-Thon fundraisers in Maryland, raising between $3,000 and $10,000 in donations for the AAFA MD-DC Chapter.
Coordination with the chapter is essential in the planning and execution of such an event. The Chapter assists with event insurance, prizes and coordination if needed. A special kit is available to interested individuals or groups.
Pre-School and school settings are ideal. However, the event can be held anywhere that has a gym floor, running track, large parking lot, or other large flat surface.
Children bring their own bikes. A special category can be set up for older children with two-wheelers. Every child receives a medal. Children are not rewarded for their speed, they are rewarded for their philanthropic participation, number of pledges, and number of laps around the track.
It is a wonderful and adorable event and a great way to get very young children interested in philanthropy.
